Talk Your Way to Sales Success
If you’re not memorable, no one will remember you.
It is no secret…financial times are tough. Surviving this business climate requires discipline, planning, creativity, and quite a bit of luck. Everyone is selling, be it an idea, a product, a service, or even a point of view.
So, how are you going to stand out from the crowd and have your voice heard above all the rest?
To be successful, you need to convince your target audience (your prospects, clients, customers, colleagues, and boss) that you are worth listening to. You need to talk your way to success. This is where the persuasive and compelling ‘elevator pitch’ comes to play.
· An "elevator pitch" is a quick and concise way to communicate who you are, what you do, and why you do it better.
What is an Elevator Pitch?
It's called an "Elevator Pitch" because it describes the challenge: "How would you explain your business and make a sale if fate placed you in an elevator with your dream prospect and you only had the time it takes to get from the top of the building to the bottom?"
Why Is Having an Elevator Pitch So Important?
You only have 30-60 seconds to make a powerful first impression. The attention span of the average person is only 30 seconds before their mind starts drifting. Further, in these turbulent times, no one can afford to waste time. You need to grab them quickly and make a winning first impression or else lose them forever.
It can be difficult to condense down what you do into a 30 – 60 sec winning elevator pitch. For inspiration, think about the narrative at the beginning of your favorite TV shows. Consider the following from the A-Team;
“In 1972 a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn’t commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Los Angeles underground. Today, still wanted by the government, they survive as soldiers of fortune.
If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire…The A-Team.”
This background story, in only 20 seconds does the following;
· Positions
· Engages
· Intrigues
· Makes you want more – a hook
This is exactly what you need your elevator pitch to do!
You need to concisely, clearly and powerfully paint a picture that will make your message memorable, and strike a cord with your listener – the hook!
If you want to stand out from the crowd you need to make every conversation count. You need to develop your own unique, winning elevator pitch and ensure first impressions last, or else…risk been forgotten!
